AFA Hopeful Agriculture is a Top Priority for New Government

As the province sets its sights on ushering in a new UCP majority government, the Alberta Federation of Agriculture (AFA) is hopeful that agriculture will be top-of-mind with the policymakers representing Alberta’s farmers.“AFA would like to congratulate Premier-designate Jason Kenney and all of the individuals that Albertans voted to elect yesterday,” said AFA President Lynn Jacobson.  “We look forward to working with each of them to ensure that agriculture is a top priority going forward in this province.”

Currently, the industry faces many challenges that will require strong leadership by the government of the day to effectively navigate. From improving grain transportation and the development of a value creation model for varietal research, to canola seed access into China and the affects of orphaned and abandoned wells on farmland, there is no shortage of issues.

“Our agriculture and agri-food industry is foundational to the strength of Alberta’s economy,” noted Jacobson.  “It’s absolutely paramount that our government understands this and is prepared to work side by side with farmers to offer strong, capable and informed leadership.”

As always, AFA remains a non-partisan general farm organization dedicated to advocating on the issues that matter most to Alberta’s farmers.
